Preparation of Business Cases in NHSScotland - BOBS

The Procurement Support Group has developed an Interactive Product BOBS (Business case Options & Benefits Schedules) that guides you through the preparation of a Business Case. This product outlines the process for applying for funding from the Scottish Executive for public sector capital projects.The complexity of the business case is very dependent on the project size and likely cost and the BOBS product is flexible enough to be adapted to suit a whole range of project complexities and scale. BOBS has all of the calculations and tables which are required in completing both an Outline Business Case (OBC) and a Full Business Case (FBC) these include Benefits Criteria, Option Appraisal  Discounted Cash Flow and Risk Analysis. Download Instructions:

  1. Prior to download create a folder named c:\bobstemp in your computers hard drive. 
  2. Download BOBS
  3. Save bobs99.exe into that folder
  4. When the file has finished downloading, double click bobs.exe (this may be labelled "bobs99" depending on your system setup) and click the Unzip button on the subsequent dialog box which pops up.
  5. This will automatically extract a number of files into your chosen temporary folder (in our case, c:\bobstemp).
  6. After this has completed, look in your folder and double click setup.exe (Again, this may be labelled "setup" depending on your system setup.) Thereafter, follow the installation instructions on screen. Note. The BOBS application will automatically be put into a folder called c:\program files\bobs.
  7. The program may be started by clicking the Start button, going to the Interactive Manuals menu and clicking on BOBS.
  8. Note that the first time it is run, it may be unable to find where you have Microsoft Word installed - to find this out, click the Start button, go to the find menu item, and click on Files or Folders, type winword.exe in the Named: box, and then click on the Find Now button.
  9. After BOBS has been successfully downloaded you can delete the bobstemp folder from your hard drive.
